Traveling is Life

I think traveling is life.
To me, people who sit and do nothing, aren't really living. They don't experience the crisp mountain air, or the feeling of awe. They don't take risks, they don't see all the secrets of this beautiful Earth.
When I travel I feel like I'm on top of the world (usually because I'm on top of a mountain). But I get to see the beauty that God has made and the wonders that most people will never see.
One of my favorite vacations was to Ouray, Colorado, also known as the "Switzerland of America". My family stayed at this campsite that was three minutes walking distance from town, and twenty seconds from a mountain. The town was so small and quaint that it was a wonder anyone could ever find it. My parents are always looking for new and different places to camp, places that no one would ever guess.
I remember one day hiking one of the mountains with my cousin having only half a water bottle and very thin air barely making its way into our lungs. But as we kept creeping to the top, the view became more and more incredible and breathtaking. The little town of Ouray looked like one raindrop in a big thunderstorm. Mountains that disappeared into clouds shot up all around it. We kept moving and we came a long a cool and refreshing waterfall and stream, where we walked barefoot and cooled our now quarter of a water bottle. I remember thinking how amazing and fortunate I was to be where I was in that moment. I felt like a child again splashing around and giggling.
Another one of the days in Ouray confirmed why it was called the "Switzerland of America". I can fully agree with the name, I've been to Switzerland and I didn't know there were mountains that grand in America, until I went to Ouray. My family went jeeping. We started probably around seven or eight in the morning. We got to the trail about half an hour later and started up the boulder covered path. We kept creeping up the trail slowly bouncing along and laughing at how fun it was. One hour on the trail and the trees grew thin. And the sights were like explosions. Imagine how amazing and how abundant fireworks are on Fourth of July, thats how the mountains were in Ouray. All of them were so steep and so grand, the world felt so big. I have never believed the song "It's a Small World" since, because I can testify, this world is huge, its amazing and beautiful and brilliant. Those mountains of Ouray made me want to cry. They were so surprising and majestic, I never wanted to look away.
I know that people have different loves for travel. Some love the ocean, the desert, or the rainforest. But absolutely nothing speaks to me like mountains. They give me a sense of life, love, and happiness. I've met so many people who have never seen mountains and every time I let my jaw drop, because to me, if you haven't seen a mountain you haven't lived.
